Children under the age of three or four years of age have the habit of putting everything in their mouth. So, it is very important to check all the toys whether they are toxic or not before they reach their hands. Toddlers are particularly prone to chocking small objects which come in their hands. You will find labels on many toys made especially for toddlers which do not have a chocking hazard. But this is not true. Many labels are intentionally over labeled to insulate from potential law suits. So these toys can be really dangerous for your baby. And some toys are so dangerous that they can even kill, maim or be hazardous to your toddler. Some of these hazardous toys are given below: |
Toxic Lead Paint Toys
Lead based paints have always been known having lot of bad effects on toddlers. There were many brand name toys made like Barbie, Thomas the Train and many more. Lead is dangerous because it is poisonous. When the toddler puts these toys in his mouth the lead contents will go inside his body and cause harm to him. This can even lead to a disease called “Lead Poisoning”.
Soft Toys
Some of the soft toys have small buttons or eyes which can come out. These can be really dangerous as the baby can put them in their mouth and it can get stuck in their throat. Even take care that the hairs of the soft toy doesn’t come out by pulling. As it can then enter the baby’s mouth.
Children’s Spoon and Fork Set
There are many fancy spoon and forks made up of plastic available in the market in brands of Scooby Doo, Tweety and Batman. Parents usually buy such fancy stuff to teach their toddlers how to use a spoon and fork while eating. So kids get attracted to them and learn the basic ways of eating. But sometimes the middle two prongs of the plastic fork detach and this can pose as a choking hazard to your child.
Old Age Toys
It is dangerous for your toddler to play with toys which are meant for Older Children as they are toxic. Usually it becomes difficult to keep dangerous toys away from younger siblings. And this causes harm to toddlers.
BPA Present In Toys
Bisphenol – A chemical which we usually refer to as BPA is an organic compound mainly used in the manufacturing of polycarbonate plastic. This plastic is usually found in baby bottles, water bottles and plastic toys like rattles and teethers. So, BPA enters the toddler’s body when he uses his tethers. This is a dangerous chemical which can cause a lot of harm to your toddler’s health in the long term.
So, you should always inspect the toy yourself before buying it for your baby as, it is better to be safe than to be sorry. Always prefer buying toys for your toddler from an eco – friendly toy store. After all your baby’s health always comes first!
