  1. Stephanie says:

There is an easy way to cut the defense expenditures. Firs, let us get back to compulasory draft of every American, male or female, without any deferment or exception, except severe medical condition approved by government military doctors. This will bring the cost down two ways:

    (1) the draftees will be paid minimum since they will be required to serve.
    (2) There will be fewer military adventures such as war in Iraq. As I remember, the opposition to Vietnam war intensified not because of the TV reports on Vietnam but because Johnson decided to limit deferments for college students which led to protests on all campuses.

In addition, we will not have Rand Paul’s spouting libertarian view that smart people should not fight where their lives would be in danger (as their chief preacher Ayn Rand suggested. Randy and the other fools on Wall Street else who have been pocketing bug bonus checks and resisting to pay their share in taxes with support from some equally selfish economists will be required to fight in other countries. No National guard loophole used by George Bush, pregnant wife loophole by Chaney or graduate student loophole by Clinton. This will bring all foreign adventures to a grinding halt. I do not expect Rush Limbaugh clamoring for fighting “his” enemies if he had to fight himself not using second amendment solution but under strict military discipline. So bring back the compulsory draft. No deferment.
