The original idea of the “Cultural Revolution” was to stop the, presumed, obsolete process in national life and educational institutions, discuss what the nation really wanted as focus and process, then, revolutionize the educational system. Of course, no consensus was reached, and a draconian purge resulted, where all the old was attempted to be discarded for a non-existent “new.” Balance is the goal, and it is never realized.

I do not see the diverse US being able to come up with a functioning national policy. If we could intelligently parse what is needed in national, regional, state and local, and yes, international areas, we could devise viable education, a la , Jefferson, an informed nation is needed for a democracy. First, we have to determine and agree on the principles and goals of an educational system. Fat chance.

The width of the socio-economical-political spectrum is self-defeating in the present stage of evolution.

There are a few “slams” in this thread against the NEA, and NFT.

Good or bad, organizations–whether unions or associations come into being to protect groups of individuals, who, in isolation, require protections against unfair practices. If abuses develop I ask, “Do you think the US Chamber of Commerce, that protects the interests of corporate America is a healthy union?”
