Yes, texting while driving is a safety hazard. So is talking on a cellphone while driving.
But I am curious how these laws will be drafted. There are plenty of times where traffic is at a complete standstill. Perhaps there is an accident ahead, or perhaps there is a train at a railroad crossing and you are sitting there for an hour. If the driver whips out a cellphone during one of these pauses and starts chatting, is this then an opportunity for a cop to issue him a ticket?
Like red-light cameras, the question is, are officials really concerned about safety, or are they licking their chops in anticipation of another revenue source?
