C'mon Sweetie...Let it Out.

Burping your baby for the first time can be a bit intimidating for first time Moms. Many new Moms actually make themselves think burping a baby is harder than it really is. Read these simple steps and you’ll be burping like a pro in no time.

There are several positions that are safe, effective, and downright recommended for burping your baby.

Burping baby over the shoulder

  • Have a soft towel ready on your shoulder so that you don’t get messy after the baby burps.
  • In an upright sitting position, allow your baby’s chest to rest on your shoulder.
  • Make sure that the baby’s head and neck are supported by your dominant hand, while the other hand supports your baby’s back while patting the back to facilitate burping.

Burping baby while baby sits on your knee

  • Allow your baby to sit on your knee.
  • With one hand, hold your baby’s chest and cup the chin.
  • With the other hand, pat your baby’s back until the air is released.

Burping baby in the prone position (while baby lies face down)

  • You may also burp your baby in the prone position
  • You do this by placing your baby on your lap, face down.
  • Your baby’s stomach should be resting on your lap.
  • Elevate the baby’s head slightly above the chest.
  • Then gently pat your baby’s back to drive the air right out.
